COMPILATION OF 'SAYYID UT-TAFASIR' [EXEGESIS] OF THE NOBLE QUR'AN AL-KAREEM

At a time when we constantly are thrusted with bad news and with the future for the Muslims on a religious, spiritual, social and political aspect looking ever so bleak, Allah, The Most Gracious, has blessed the Ahl as-Sunnah w'al-Jama'ah with news that one of the most revered and respected Scholars of our time, Hadrat Shaykh al-Islam w'al-Muslimeen has begun compiling a 'Tafsir'; commentary and explanation of the Blessed Islamic Sacred Book, the Noble Qur'an al-Kareem.
Though there are many Tafasir (pl.of tafsir) of the Blessed Qur'an available in the market from the earliest of time to the present day, many require a deep rooted intellectual understanding of the glossary of terms and terminology. 'Hadrat' Shaykh al-Islam's work will be both concise and succinct and written in an intelligible & comprehensible urdu language primarily with the common man in mind. InshaAllah, the intention is for the future English version to reflect this motion as well.
A few years ago when 'Hadrat' drastically reduced the number of lectures they had previously been delivering, a mammoth gap was felt in the hearts and lives of the sunni masses. As it had become an expected and normal custom for Hadrat to tour various parts of the world for propagation means ever since the very early seventies. Hadrat's unique method of deliberation, eloquence, logical examples and oratory fluency and passion was described and promoted by senior contemporary Scholars as the most influential in terms of installing the true doctrines and beliefs of the Ahl as-Sunnah w'al Jama'ah in the hearts of Muslims. Though Hadrat's age and health was a deciding factor for the dramatic reduction of lectures the Muslims were still at odds with themselves unable to undertstand or accept Hadrat's decision due to their immense popularity & adoration but today the news of Hadrat's commitment & endeavor to complete the major task of theTafsir will certainly heal the wounds for many devotees throughout the world.
From the mid-seventies upto the mid-nineties Hadrat Shaykh al Islam's lectures were widely distributed via audio and later video cassettes. 'Ulema of the opposing sects were also keen to listen to Hadrat's words, wisdom and scholarly arguments. 'Khutbaat-e-Bartania'; a compilation of speeches of their first U.K. tour in 1974 was a best seller in the Sub-Continent with many young and aspiring Scholars emulating Hadrat's academic and intellectual opinions when studying and giving lectures. This was Shaykh al-Islam at their very best as a 'lecturer'; Muqarrir, thus acquiring the title and honour as; 'The Crown of Orators' [Tajdar-e-Khitabat], and now they are employing their knowledge, wisdom and talent running through their 'Gilani veins as 'an author of tafsir', a Mufassir in the science of the explanation and interpretation of the Noble Qur'an.
The first of the ten volume compendium has already been completed. We understand the 'unveiling ceremony' [rasme-e-ijra] for this first volume consisting of the first three juz (para) took place during the first annual 'khatam Shareef' for our Pirani Amma Sahibah, alayha ar-rahmah w'al-ridwan, during the month of October 2008, in Ahmadabad Shareef.
(The following excerpt is taken from our section 'Significance of the Title': Shaykh al-Islam, to urther clarify and illuminate the reader why the compilation of Tafsir by Hadrat, is in essence a natural process.)
'Shaykh al-Islam', as inferred from its use as a term among the authorities, is a title attributed to the follower of the Book of Allah and the example of His Messenger, upon whom be peace, who possesses knowledge of the principles of the Science [of Islam], has plunged deep into the different views of the scholars, is able to extract the legal evidences from the sacred texts, and understands the rational and transmitted proofs at a satisfactory independent level. At times, this title is given to those who have reached to the level of Wilayah, and from whom people derive blessings both when they are alive and when they are dead. Similarly, whoever has tread the true path of the People of Islam and has come out unscathed from the folly and ignorance of youth; and whoever has become a living apparatus for others [in solving problems or winning a struggle] and a refuge in every difficulty: these are the meanings of the word as used by the general public.
